National Rail (UK)

The National Rail Widget will help you keep track of arrivals and departures (in real time) to/from any station covered by the www.nationalrail.co.uk Web site.

The Widget will automatically refresh itself every 10 minutes, but you can force a refresh by clicking on the text "Refresh Trains". This refresh cannot exceed once every two minutes by request of the RTTI web site admins.

To find your station, click on "Lookup Station" and use the drop-downs to navigate to the right station.

The list of stations is retrieved directly from the Web site and some stations have odd locations as a result. Paddington is under "L" for "London Paddington".

You can also use the "Recent Stations" drop-down to switch quickly between up to five favourites.

Since many people appear to use this Widget much more than I do, if you come across problems then please let me know by shooting an email to widgets - at/@ - reades - dot - com. That will ensure that they get fixed rather more quickly than if you count on me to spot it.

XMMS Remote

[Please note the caveats concerning the complexity of installation of this Widget as detailed below - Editor]

This Widget is based on code originally created by X2 Studios (http://www.x2studios.com) and it controls an instance of XMMS/xmms-shell running on a remote *nix machine. It's designed to be used in an environment where you have a *nix-based MP3 server directly connected to your stereo.

Where this differs from simply using X to control XMMS directly is that it a) only transfers data across the network when songs end (or every two minutes if it can't extract details from the file), b) it uses a lot less process power than exporting an X display, and c) it supports multiple simultaneous users/connections so you can share control of the XMMS instance.

Please see Version History for extended information.

Eject

This is a simple eject button for your optical drives on your Windows PC. I found it to be handy on my laptop as it is always clumsy trying to find the button on the drive, so this makes it a simple mouse click away!

I decided to make this after I figured out how to do it for my Any Radio Widget.

It could also be great for those who change disks often, but have a CPU on the floor or in another hard to reach place. You can select the drive letter in the preferences.

Currently this works on Windows systems only.

Any Radio

Based on a "Jenson MP3310" Car Stereo Unit - this Widget will let you set your own radio station and then sit on your desktop just like it was in the dashboard of your car.

Most of the buttons work just like the real thing. (that is the ones that are working as of this release). The unit is sizable so it won't take up too much desktop area, and features some nice things like, flashing display ( as close to the real things as possible without spending days on it.).

Features the ability to change station ID color and flashing colors. Display the station name or whatever you want to identify your stream!

This unit will also track the downloads of your favorite Widget. Set a home page for the stream or just for your favorite page. It has a stream status window to show current status of player (IE: off, playing, stopped, paused, etc...)

webpage ICE (Indescriminent Charactor Extractor)

Webpage ICE is a small utility for extracting dynamic data from a webpage and displaying it on the screen. It does this by grabbing the page and then searching through it and deleting all HTML code and tags.

There is no limit to the size of the page to scrape but the results will be slow if the page is bigger than a few lines or so, as it will dynamically adjust the text buffer to keep all the data in it without truncating any of it. So don't make it scrape a big page or it will go very slow.

there is a gear in the lower corner of the window, click and hold the mouse button down on it and the Widget will expand and make the text easier to read. double click on it and the data will be sent to the screen all at once in a popup "alert" window. (Good for seeing all data at one time when time is short.)

Remote Desktop Launcher

Simple Widget to launch a Remote Desktop session in Windows. This is great for IT Professionals who work with remote machines on a regular basis.

I was comparing Yahoo Widgets with Windows Vista Gadgets when I saw that Vista had a Remote Desktop Gadget and I could not find one in Yahoo Widgets, so I made this one. (It's amazing how similar the two engines are in how they look and what they do, but they are definitely different in the backend!!)
